Time to brew those Octoberfest beers! Hard to believe Labor Day weekend is upon us already. It’s the unofficial end of this unbelievably hot summer, and the unofficial beginning of the Fall Brewing Season. Time to brew those Octoberfest beers (even if it’s a little late for a lager!), and pumpkin ales! Cooler weather will eventually come so it’s also time to be thinking about your winter beers, both for holiday giving and cold weather sipping. Congratulations to Kyle Kernozek & Michele Dickey for being chosen by Sam Calagione at the Extreme Homebrew Challenge to brew with Dogfish Head for the GABF Pro/Am and to Wardell Massey for being the People's Choice Winner. | What are your
favorite beers? Victory? Yards? Flying Fish? Dogfish Head?
George Hummel & Nancy Rigberg have been award-winning writers, speakers and homebrewers since 1986 -- before any of those breweries were even open! Their list of writing credits include Beer Philadelphia, Ale Street News, BarleyCorn, Mid-Atlantic Brewing News, New Brewer and more. They host numerous beer tastings and seminars, including the annual Split Rock Lodge beer festival. They've been guests on Beer Philadelphia Radio, and featured on the cover of "Mother Earth Magazine". They make their home in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia, on the grounds of a defunct brewery that at its height in 1913, turned out nearly 200,000 barrels of lager. At the turn of the 20th Century, there were neary 100 active breweries in Philadelphia. |

"THIRST OF PHILADELPHIATM
NAMED IN HONOR OF SOME OF PHILLY'S BEST BEER BARS!
Different Recipes Fermenting throughout the Year!
"Thirst of Philadelphia" recipes make great gifts or souveniers of Philly!
LONDON GRILL PORTER |
A full bodied, robust porter, in the distinguished style of the London Grill. |
|
KHYBER PASS IPA |
A bracing British IPA, as rugged as the Khyber. |
|
COPA, TOO! BELGIAN WHITE (wit) ALE |
Complex, intriguing. Our version of a 'Session Beer' -- a classic Belgian White Beer. Just like the COPA -- the beer you keep coming back to. |
|
BARDS IRISH STOUT |
Mother's Milk, translated across the pond. |
|
JACK'S FIREHOUSE RED |
As Jack's motto says, "lay on the floor and do everything the nice fireman tells you..."; a coppery red ale, hopped in the American style. |
|
SILK CITY WHEAT |
Like Silk City itself, a Bavarian -style wheat beer that goes with the flow. |
|
THE ABBAYE BELGIAN ABBEY STYLE |
We had to brew a strong, malty abbey dubbel style beer in honor of this feisty Northern Liberties tavern. Bottle with oxygen barrier caps, as aging for at least a year is possible. A liquid yeast is recommended. |
|
SUGAR MOM'S OLD ALE |
Funky, interesting, intoxicating, ... wait, that's sugar mom's bartenders. No, really, a soothing old ale that sneaks in a punch. |
|
BRIDGID’S BELGIAN PALE ALE |
Comforting, yet exotic, this is a beer you can visit every day, like Bridgid's. A belgian pale ale that's so drinkable, yet complex. |
|
MONK'S TRIPEL |
An enticing Belgian tripel, pale and deceptively powerful. This beer will captivate you, just as the 'Brussels Spouts' do at Monk's. |
|
NODDING HEAD SCOTCH ALE |
Powerfully smoky and malty, this rendition will have you nodding your head in delight! |
|
NEW!!! GEORGE'S FAULT! |
The homebrew version of Nodding Head's Great American Beer Festival Gold-Medal winning Belgian grand cru style beer! |
